Executive Officer – Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)
Sheena Graham is Ngadju woman from southeastern Western Australia and is passionate about international indigenous issues.
Sheena is an Executive Officer at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and has been leading the department’s work on indigenous policy. Sheena wrote DFAT’s first Indigenous Peoples Strategy which covers the full spectrum of Australia’s international engagement on indigenous issues – covering foreign policy, economic diplomacy, the aid program, and the corporate management of Australia’s Foreign Service. Sheena also wrote DFAT’s first “Guidance Note for Reaching Indigenous Peoples in the Australian Aid Program” which provides operational guidance for delivering culturally-appropriate assistance to indigenous peoples in developing countries.
Sheena is a former board member for Amnesty International Australia and contributed towards the 2009 UN study on “Lessons learned and challenges to achieve the implementation of the right of indigenous peoples to education”.
