Managing Director – Stonecutters Capital Ltd.
Tim began his business career in 1995 in Edmonton with NAI Commercial as a junior broker in light industrial and land services. In 1996, out of an interest in distribution and logistics, Tim moved to Burlington, ON to begin with jjBarnicke Ltd., working on this complex facet of industrial real estate.
In 1999, Tim decided to return to post-secondary education, embarking on a successful academic career that took him through completed PhD coursework at McGill University. Tim’s work was recognized by University, Provincial and Federal research awards including the noted FQRSC and SSHRC doctoral scholarships.
Due to family obligations back in Western Canada, Tim left his academic career to return to the Edmonton business world 2007. Tim’s research skills have been utilized to develop numerous business silos including several Public-Private-Partnership (P3) infrastructure opportunities. To underpin his “hard asset” investment logic, including P3s, Tim has spent tens of thousands of hours on his signature global macroanalytics research (the interrelationships between the “4 Es” – Energy, Economy, Environment and the Exponential function). This deep macro knowledge is leveraged by Tim’s clients on a regular basis as they attempt to position their capital investments for the coming decades. Tim’s research has been used by asset managers, pension funds, government stakeholders, research universities and even political leaders who seek to understand the complicated future all humans face on this finite planet with finite resources.
Most recently, in 2015, Tim became a founding partner and Managing Director of Stonecutters Capital Ltd., a private equity firm which seeks to deploy capital into “hard-asset” investments in safe jurisdictions, primarily in Western Canada’s commodities-driven economy.
Tim’s out-of-the-box philosophy is driven by the unique integration of his commercial and academic backgrounds.
