Cindy Cañupan is of Mapuche ethnicity. She is a certified designer of luxury shoes and clothing. She is the founding partner the prestigious Chilean shoe company, “Zapatería Nain”. Cindy participated in multiple runway fashion shoes presenting her designs at various venues such as “Fashion Week” and “Exponovios” amongst others. In 2012, with her sister Judith, they decided to quit their jobs in order to form the business Nain, after the last name of her grandfather. They created their own workshop and local retail store located in the central of Santiago.
They won the ENAMYPE 2015 prize (national conference of small businesses) as the best entrepreneur of the year in all of Chile, which was selected by the national bank Banco Estado, Sofofa, and Simón de Cirene, giving a speech in front of 1,500 people as well as meeting Chilean President Michelle Bachelet for the prestigious recognition.
Nain participated in the “World Forum for Indigenous Businesses” in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2015 as well as in Saskatoon, Canada in 2016. This year they founded the small business cooperative GEMINUR (Group of Urban Indigenous Entrepreneurs and Professionals) that joined 8 different business of Chilean indigenous roots to work together.
Nain was selected by the organizers of the Magic Fair for clothes and shoes to participate in the exposition in Las Vegas in 2016. Nain also participated in the “Forum for Women Business Leaders 2016” presented by the Pacific Alliance and Macrorrueda of Businesses in Lima, Peru. NAIN is part of the commercial mission of Santiago Innova that works in commercial exchanges with Zapopan, Jalisco Mexico. They participated in a book that shoes the exchange of goods between markets. Currently Zapatería Nain is exporting shoes to Canada. They were published “The Week of the PYME 2016” and invited to meet with the president in the annual reunion of exporting businesses. As part of the downtown campaign to highlight growing businesses the founders were published on 15 billboards across Santiago. They also participated in the Macrorrueda of businesses in Pereira, Colombia where Nain was selected to participate in another fashion and shoe show called The Micam in Milan, Italy in September 2017.
At 30 years old, Cindy has had success in various commercial ventures, managing a team, and being a reference to anyone that is searching to make the life they are passionate to live.
