WIBF 2018 Featuring: Kiri Nathan
The Kiri Nathan brand embodies identity and inclusivity. Inspired by Aotearoa New Zealand, her company is built on tradition, culture, unique designs, integrity and a clear company vision.
The label produces lifestyle and bespoke womenswear fashion, pounamu jewellery, contemporary korowai and kakahu. The Kiri Nathan tribe has an emotional connection to Aotearoa, New Zealand, Te Whenua, Te Tangata and Te Ao Māori.
Founder and head designer Kiri Nathan started the (KN) label in 2010 after completing a Visual Arts degree, majoring in fashion. Kiri went back to the marae to learn traditional and contemporary Māori weaving, these elements fused together and eventuated in the birth and continued evolution of the KN label.
Since its inception, Kiri has showcased her work at London Fashion Week, New Zealand Fashion Week and Guangzhou Fashion Week. In 2017, Kiri was chosen to represent New Zealand on an awarded International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) by the US State Department for “Women in Entrepreneurship”. The KN brand is the only New Zealand Fashion label to work with Walt Disney. Kiri has personally met a gifted Taonga to President Barack Obama, BEYONCÉ, Mariah Carey and Demi Lovato. KN products are owned by Michelle Obama, Ed Sheeran, Bruce Springsteen and WILL I AM to name a few.
Alongside this, Kiri sits on the Advisory Board for SUPERdiverse Women, and is a trustee for the “I have a Dream” charitable trust, supporting the education and growth of over 1500 decile one children from the far north of New Zealand. She is also the founder and director of the first Māori Fashion Hikoi to China, supporting the global growth of Māori fashion designers.
